Glass City Riverwalk - Vistula

The Vistula portion of the Glass City Riverwalk marks the most significant development in Toledo’s first neighborhood in several decades. TDC worked alongside Metroparks Toledo to ensure the community’s vision and needs were at the heart of the park’s conceptual design.

Vistula Riverwalk Final Report MASTER FINAL 1

Community Engagement: Glass City Riverwalk - Vistula Neighborhood

Over the course of the year, TDC led a comprehensive community engagement effort, reaching over 25,000 people and engaging with more than 500 residents and stakeholders. The aim was not only to gather feedback for the creation of a beautiful park and riverwalk, but also to help design a public space that truly reflects the community it serves.

The design phase engagement process was undertaken along side partners Tetra Tech and EDGE, and revealed several key themes for the park’s design, including the need for adaptable spaces, opportunities to connect with nature, areas for rest and socializing, and free accessible public recreational spaces. There was also a strong emphasis on ensuring the park is safe and welcoming for a multi-generational audience.

The final conceptual design for the riverwalk, therefore, is not just a park—it will be a vibrant, publicly accessible space that fosters connection, unity, and inspiration for generations to come.

TDC is thankful to Metroparks Toledo for its vision and partnership in Vistula and other portions of the Riverwalk, and for its continuing commitment to engage the community through construction and development.
